THE 10th ANNIVERSARY 10 Years after the folks at SunsetSF brought you the SF FUNK FESTIVAL, they're back with a run of shows to move your hearts, minds and feet. The Festival foudned to celebrate the funk in music, art and film presents another lineup of legendary fugures and future stars. As always SF Funk provides a wide array of funky formats to appeal to fans of live music, djs, turntablism, disco, boogie, worldfunk and soul... so much soul.
The Festival kicks off on November 4 with our legendary Dj night "the House Party" this time featuring a disco-drenched lineup for the ages including Dutch disco-lectro heroes KRAAK & SMAAK, Canadian phenmoms NEIGHBOUR & CAL BASS, and San Francisco stalwarts like SFFunk Founder MOTION POTION, Disco Knights reisdents M3, ANTHONY MANSFIELD, and TAL M. KLEIN. MoM (Motown on Mondays) takes over the back room with GORDO CABEZA, TIMOTEO U9LIFT and PHLECK. The following night at Mezzanine, the disco assault contineus with boogie sueprstar DAM FUNK performing live with MASTER BLAZTER and joined by support from MATTHEW DAVID, DEVONWHO & the SWEATER FUNK CREW.
Week two begins on Monday November 7 as we celebrate MoM (Motown on Mondays) at Madrone Lounge featuring longtiem SFFUnk favorite ROMANOWSKI along with residents GORDO CABEZA & JASWHO. That Friday couldn't be more signicant as we celebrate 11.11.11 with none other than MORRIS DAY & THE TIME as the Birdmen drop an epic set of their signature funk on Mezzanine. On Saturday the 12th, rising blue-eyed soul group THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS do their sweet thing at Brick & Mortar.
For week three we begin with one of the city's best weekly funk nights, Afrolicious, where we welcome special guest NAPPY RIDDIM from Washington DC and SF FUnk director mOTION POTION. go to Oakland on November 18 to shine a light on DJ Platurn's long-running 45 SESSIONS where we'll watch some of the Bay Area's best Djs drop 7's all night long. Then on Saturday, November 19, the fun continues with Brooklyn deepfunk revivalists THE BUDOS BAND and SF's own world-funk heroes AFROLICIOUS (live) and a closing DJ Set by MOTION POTION. On Sunday November 20, the fun continues with a night of rare disco-boogie, SWEATER FUNK feat. TRES LINGERIE at the Li Po Lounge in Chinatown. Following a quick break to eat turkey and stew in our homemade gravy, we return for two more shows to close it all down on Friday & Saturday November 25-26. The legendary SOS Band, purveyors of such hits as "Take Your Time" and "Just Be Good to Me" play 2 sets a night at one of San Francisco's finest venues. Sushi and soul, a fitting way to shut it all down after three weeks of of superheavy grooves and a worthy anniversary for one of the city's most beloved annual festivals.
